Hey Mike==It can but why guess. Go to Auto zone and have them check it our for free and you will know what is causing the light to come on. You can clean 02's but be sure the carb cleaner you use has NO silicone as it will ruin it for sure. GoodluckJoe
Have vehicle scanned to determine problem
the cam position sensor and ignition coil are inside the distributor. the crank position sensor is located on the bottom front of the engine, behind the belts on the left side.
the light is a warning to you that something is wrong and your engine is not operating correctly and needs to be serviced soon. Most times there is a part of the emissions systems that set it off, like a bad sensor somewhere. You will need to get the CODES read. The codes are then converted to a diagnostic problem and then the parts of that system need to be analyzed to see which one is not operating. I will ask this....did you just recently get gas? You must turn the gas 3 clicks when you put it back on to make sure the correct pressure is in the gas tank otherwise you will get a check engine light. So go check your gas cap and if it is tight.........then you will need to take your car to a place liek Autozone and they will put a diagnostic scan tool on your car usually under the dash under the steering column and pull your codes. From there it is up to you where you decide to get it fixed, either by yourself or a garage. By the way after you tighten the gas cap you will need to drive some miles AND go thru a few stop and start cycles with the engine befoer the service engine light goes out if it was a gas cap issue. The light will not automatically turn off after you tighten the cap.
Turn the key to run position Depress the accelerator pedal to the floor 3times in 5 seconds. The light should flash and the go out. Turn the key off and the start the engine.
turn ignition switch to run do not start press gas pedal to floor three times within five seconds change oil light will flash if you did it rght turn off then start engine then you are done
Try checking the gas cap. if it is not tight, the engine light tends to come on at random times
Something wrong with your throttle position sensor
It might be the catalytic converters. My 2002 had the check engine light on and it was a bad cat.
a check engine light that flashes while driving has nothing to do with the speed sensor or alternator a flashing engine light shows that there is problem that is causing catylitic conver damage for instance if you had a bad spark plug or spark plug wire that was causing a missfire then the light will flash there is no other reason for the light to flash
An intermittent crankshaft sensor will not let the engine fire the correct times. This can definitely cause a misfire for the engine.
The temp sensor could make it start hard, is the OBD "check engine light" on? either way if your suspecting the temp sensor you should have it put on the scan tool and let it tell you if the sensor is within range or if it needs replacing
9 times out of 10 replacing the oxygen sensor will do the trick. Or, try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.
some OBD 2 systems have a 4 wire 02 sensor if the o2 sensor is bad it will cause a stall, some times a break in a vacuum line will cause the same effect.
If the camshaft sensor is not operating properly, then the engine could suffer lower mpg. The sensor is what causes the engine to fire at the proper times and this is critical for better economy.
Mine came on on my 2001 Concorde because a rat got to the wires of a sensor, the little bastards did it three times :(
its probably your TPS Switch or your idle control sensor, check engine light will not come on for either take to Hyundai dealership
What you are referring to is a MAF (mass air flow) sensor, not a map sensor. this regulates your air/fuel mixture and if clogged can affect your emissions control system and turn on the check engine light. Sometimes you can clean the MAF sensor and the problem will go away, other times you might need it replaced./
