No you do not, you would put oil on a oil filter gasket if it is a spin on type, this stops the rubber from binding and helps it seal.

What may be the problem is antifreeze is leaking in the engine compartment up by the fire wall in the middle of the motor but not in the vehicle and it is not coming from heater hoses?

if it appears to be coming from where the cylinder head meets the engine block, it is the head gasket. if it appears near the intake manifold and head, it is the intake gasket (or intake AND exhaust gasket on a straight six or Chrysler slant six). if it is coming from the engine block it is a freeze plug. some v-6 and v-8 engines are common for springing coolant leaks at the intake gaskets.

Should gasket sealer be used on the intake manifold?

Depending on the motor you may need to put a small dot of silicone at the corners where the intake meets the head of a V motor. 4-6 cylindar straight motors don't use sealer.

Coolant leak somewhere on your 1996 Pontiac grand am you have been told by mechanics that the block was cracked or the intake manifold gasket was shot but no coolant in oil and car runs ok ad water?

there wouldn't be any coolant in the oil if your intake manifold gasket is shot. so its the gasket. A cracked block or cylinder head would render the motor unstartable, so that's a lie from the mechanic. Find a different one you can trust.

Where is the starter fuse for a 1987 Cadillac DeVille?

29s here, i work for an automotive company a recently we had a 94 or 95 caddy deville with the north star engine in for a starter replacement. the starter was located in the center of the motor! the engine is a v-shape (v8) with the intake cover acting as a lid overtop of the motor with the starter smack in the center. you would have to remove the intake in order to even see the starter if you have the same motor types. That is exactly how to remove it on a 97, i have one and the starter is located under the intake.

Labor cost replace intake gasket 2001 SC2 Saturn?

High idle condition is often the intake gasket on this engine. The 'book' on this is about $400 labor.. Probably could do it at home, but it's a lot easier to get to if you tilt the motor forward. We paid to have it done :( High idle condition is often the intake gasket on this engine. The 'book' on this is about $400 labor.. Probably a gasket leak. Could be the intake gaskets or the thermostat gasket.

Where is the starter motor on BMW Z3?

The starter is located under the intake manifold, and you will have to remove the intake manifold to get to it. Do not forget to buy a intake gasket before you take it off, because they always fall apart when you take the intake manifold off.

Can a bad head gasket or intake gasket result in water in the combustion chamber?

Answer Yeas absolutuley can, Typical of the 3.8 and the 3.1 motors, Have also seen it it in the 3.4 motors. What do you have? It is probably an intake manifold gasket problem, depending on the motor.

1995 S-10 2.2 replaced cracked head new gaskets thermostat hoses everything torqued properly what can be causing water to leak from back of motor?

Intake manifold may have moved when being tightened down causing intake gasket to move and not seal. There are water passages in it . I pulled the head and the gasket had moved, replaced the gasket and this time used permaseal this fixed the leak.

What is the role of the intake manifold in a motor?

The intake manifold in a motor is like the lungs of your car. Air is taken in through the intake manifold and then is evenly distributed to the cylinders to mix with gas.

Why does my 98 grand am 3100 engine loose coolant about half a gallon a mouth can't find a leak?

most likely your intake manifold gasket is blown and is leaking dexcool into your engine. take it to a repuitable mechanic and it will probably cost at least 500 to fix it. but if you continue to keep driving it like that, your motor will freeze up and youll have to switch them out. research it on google, there are many lawsuits against gm about faulty intake manifold gaskets
