You need a manual to acquaint you with your car and tell you how it is done. Get one from DISCOUNTAUTOREPAIRMANUALS.COM.
The manual with really help... but it isn't that difficult. The starter is located underneath the engine about in the middle. It's best if you hoist up the car and use jack stands for safety. Remove battery ground (negative terminal) cable. There are two 13mm bolts that hold the starter motor to the engine. You may need to remove an oxygen sensor if it's in your way. Otherwise, remove starter cable (red) from the starter motor and then remove two bolts.
To install, repeat the following in reverse order. Torque specs on the starter motor bolts is 20-27 Nm (15-20 lb-ft), and starter motor cable 8-12.4 Nm (70-110 lb-in).
Disconnect the neg. cable from the battery. Raise the vehicle. Disconnect the battery cable from the starter motor. Remove the starter mounting bolts. Installation is the reverse of removal. GOOD LUCK!
Three bolts to take the old one out, take the wires of the old starter and put on the new. Replacement is the opposite of removal.

Begin by removing the positive cable from your battery. Remove the cables from the front of the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new Ford starter.
The Amperage draw is so high it locks the starter solenoid. This can be because of a bad starter bushing, low voltage in the battery, timing, etc. It is a major engineering defect in the design. All Fords prior to 1992 have this flaw. It can result in a fire, dead battery, etc. The good news is Ford redesigned their starters in 1992. The new starters will fit the old engines and Ford sells a retrofit kit to rewire the Solenoid for the new starter. The way it corrects the problem is the old solenoid becomes a starter relay, with the output wire now going to a solenoid mounted on the new starter. (This gives you less of a voltage drop at the new solenoid vs the old solenoid, that solves the problem in most cases) You need to buy the kit from Ford (Under $20.00) but you can buy the starter anywhere. Just give them your vehicle information as if you owned a 1993 Ford when buying the starter. You can also get a rebuilt starter from Ford. You could make your own kit, but the Ford Kit is everything you need and comes with instructions (priceless). Warprunner
that's has nothing to do with a remote start and if your asking that question you should seek professional installation.

Could it be your starter won't work because... Ford didn't make a 1998 Thunderbird?
two
Unscrew it
The starter solenoid is physically mounted on top of the starter motor itself.
I just checked the owners manual and mine has an 18 gallon tank. 1992 Ford Thunderbird 3.8 liter.

In 1992 the Ford installed manual transmissions in the Super Coupe ONLY, automatic was an extra cost option. Thunderbird, Thunderbird Sport, and Thunderbird LX, in V-6 or V-8 had automatic transmissions ONLY.

yes
On a 1992 Ford Thunderbird : The gas tank is under the vehicle , just in front of the rear wheels
A turbocharger would be more practical and easier to install.
