replacing speed senor is not a hassle. all you have to do is find SPEED SENSOR, all cars are different, in my Honda theres 4, i have replaced two already. speed sensor should be on transmission. remove bolts and pull out. simple put in new sensor.
If the speedometer and odometer are both not working, I would blame the speed sensor. If only the speedometer does not work and the odometer does work, the cluster is bad.
take the front grill support off if the engine is in the car. then remove the plate covering the cam. then remove the cam?. it is alot easier with the engine on a stand.
ck coolant temp sensor
its an anti theft system that uses a hall effect sensor to send a resistance value to a part of the ignition system in some gm vehicles
This could be an indication of a failing crank sensor. GM has issued a recall for this and you shoudl be able to find out more information from any cadillac or GM dealer.
There sure are. There is an output sensor and an input sensor on the automatic transmissions. The output sensor is external, controls the speedometer, and is easily changed. The input sensor is a nightmare! It is internal, and believed to control the shift points. Some GM dealers will tell you that it is external, and not a problem, but don't believe it. It is inside the transmission right behind the valve body, which must be removed. In order to remove the pan and valve body, (as well as the filter), you must remove the transmission from the car!!! If the problem is intermittent like mine, and it still shifts normally, just reset the check engine light and ignore it.
Top of the transmission tail shaft housing.
remove the front passenger wheel, remove the crank pulley, remove the crank sensor. you may need a GM special tool to remove certain bolts
It is located on the tailshaft of the transmission, on the passenger side.
It is behind the atarter in the side of the engine block. Must remove starter to get to it.
It is not behind it, GM removed 1 drain plug and installed a knock sensor in its place. Just remove sensor. If your lucky it might come out without brakeing. There is two of them, and they are under the Intake manifold. You will have to remove the intake to even see them and to remove them.Bad place for GM. to put them.
Rust built up (where the front wheel speed sensors insert into the hub) raises the sensor away from the tone ring causing a change in the air gap. This sends a bad signal to the ABS module. The ABS module thinks the wheel is locked up and then activates the ABS. I have seen this in GM trucks and Ford trucks. Remove the wheel speed sensor, clean area of flaking rust then reinstall sensor.
May have replaced the wrong sensor or you have a bad wire in that curcuit. gm Jim
AnswerThe Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) could also be what is being asked about here. See "Related Questions" below for more about the VSSAnswerMost newer vehicles include a wheel speed sensor on each wheel that is used to tell when one or more wheel is slipping. The information is used by the ABS system and by the anti-slip feature if present. The speed sensors are also used as a part of the cruise control system. Many people seem to believe that there is a governor attached to the speed sensors. There is no evidence that a governor exists on any Ford or GM product.
It does not have a crank shaft sensor.
