How many Mormons are Republican?

Currently (August 2011), there are two members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) campaigning for president of the US for the Republican nomination. They are Mitt Romney (former Governor of Massachusetts) and Jon Huntsman (former Governor of Utah and US Ambassador to China).

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) does not require its members to report their political parties, nor does the Republican Party require its members to report their religious affiliation. Therefore, it would be impossible to know. All we can safely say is that most Mormons in the United States tend to be more politically conservative. Even if they are conservative, they may not be registered Republicans. There are still many Mormons who are Democrats. The Church does not take sides in party politics but does say that there are good principles found in both parties.
