If you get an email that used your address, it is a form of phishing. They cloak your address; they didn't really make another email account. Ignore; delete; never answer those.
Spam. THe main problem is people using it. It takes a lot less time to talk to someone on the phone. Computers save a business a lot of time, but the average person has found another device other than the tv to waste their time on. There is no reason one cannot email the iTunes install file to a friend for them to download. One could also point their friend to the iTunes website to download the program instead. That may be a better choice since the iTunes install file is big enough to clog up an email inbox.
Assuming you mean from the Apple site: The email address is only required if you want the special offers information email sent to you. If you uncheck the two boxes that request the email notification you can click the Download Now button and download iTunes.
