In Virginia there are tattoo schools that are governed by the board. Schools must be licensed. The instructors must be licensed. The curriculum must conform to the state's curriculum for tattoo artistry. Professional licensure has additional requirments because once you graduate from school you must also pass a state test.

Several things determine which would be best for you. Namely your location, your budget, the teacher's talent, what's included, how long the course is, etc.

The hourly curriculum is determined by the location. In Virginia tattoo school is 750 hours long (http://www.tattoo-training.net). However tattoo apprenticeship is 1500 hours. These are the two accepted methods for obtaining professional licensure in this commonwealth.

Tattooed people can't donate blood because of the inherent risks that might come to whoever receives the blood. The risks that the ink from the tattoo might have infected the bloodstream can give the recipient blood diseases.

What are the working conditions for an artist?

First, talk with the client about procedure and regulations you will be following.Have the client fill out a form of consent for the tattoo for legal reasons. You will needto see their picture ID, and if they are under 18, you need to see birth certificate and an ID of the Client, as well as the parent, or legal documentation stating the client is emancipated, and an ID.Talk with the client about the Design they want, and if it's going to look horrible, don't be afraid to make a suggestion. Try not to judge or impose your ideals on the customer, you wont make any money, and you will lose clientele. After you get an understanding of what the customer wants, you will need to make a sketch of what they want, and have them approve. If the sketch is approved you will thendraw an outline, and place it on transfer paper. The transfer is applied to the skin with a tattoo goo, and then you start to tattoo. As far as shop stuff goes. You need to keep the shop clean, keep all consent forms on file, and keep internments and tools clean. The chairs need to be wiped down before and after each client. Guns need to be auto-claved, and needles and ink caps need to be disposed of properly. Gloves need to be changed before and after the tattoo. As well as during clean up, and if you touch anything, gloves MUST BE CHANGED. Hands do need to be washed even if you are wearing gloves. Health Department guidelines have to be followed, or you can get your tattoo license taken away.

What effect does penicillin have on a new tattoo?

If you're about to be tattoo'd and on Penicillin DO NOT get tattoo'd I just attempted to and was unable to proceed more than three minutes, it causes hyper sensitivity to the skin, will make you bleed excessively and ink will barely take and I've sat through a good 7/8 hour session before. In terms of using it for healing I'd advise you don't the healing is fairly quick anyway and I'd consider it pointless to use. Tattoo artist
