if you mean when you put the key in the ignition to start it you hear a grinding sound then either your flywheel has a missing tooth (unlikely) or the starter is the one that needs replacement(most common)

if you mean that when the car is started you hear a grinding sound and the car when gears are shifted it wont move then since it is a manual transmission i would look at the clutch housing.(throw out bearing ,spring compressor ect.) perhaps someone else may have other sugestions or ideas.
