A clip inside the door mechanism broke. It is about a $7 part and costs more than 200 dollars to fix because technicians have to take the door apart! Lexus should do a recall on this as it is a very common problem. I had to fix the driver's side door, but not going to fix the passengers.

∙ 13y agoThere are lots of possibilities, but here are the most likely causes:
- Broken, bent, or jammed linkages inside the door panel.
- Some rear passenger doors are equipped with child safety mechanisms that prevent children from opening the door without your help. The switch to (de) activate these is usually on the door edge somewhere and only accessible with the door open. Some of them can be activated by accident and some come activated from the factory. Refer to your owner's manual for more specific details.
- Some vehicles with electric locks may need to be unlocked before attempting to open the door, since some will lock the doors automatically when driving. (If you drive somewhere, then go to let someone step out without putting the vehicle in Park and turning off the ignition, the doors will not unlock automatically, you have to push the unlock button first).
- Some mechanically locked vehicles must be manually unlocked for the door to open from the inside. If you don't notice that the door is locked, or if the lock is malfunctioning somehow, the door won't open.
