The best explanation I have seen is found here: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/general-discussion/tech-articles2/351094-99-02-nbs-power-window-regulator-motor-replacement.html It has pics that should help a lot.
you will have to replace the window regulator.
2-3 SCREWS ON DOOR HANDLE AND UNDER POWER WINDOW TRIM PIECE, THEN LEFT STRAIGHT UP TO REMOVE
The window is not off track. The window regulator is broken. In most cases you will have to replace the window motor and regulator as an assembly.
To reattach the window regulator and cables on a 2002 Mini Cooper, first, ensure the window is in the fully down position. Align the regulator with the mounting points in the door and secure it with the appropriate bolts. Then, thread the window cables through the designated slots in the regulator and ensure they are properly tensioned. Finally, test the window operation before reassembling the door panel.
Window motor and regulator are found inside of the door panel and may be bolted or riveted in. Should be bolted. Disconnect the window from regulator, take out reg. and motor, then disconnect regulator from motor, reconnect new motor to regulator, reattach those inside of the door, then reconnect the window to the regulator, put it together and see if it works.
To replace the driver's side rear window of a 2002 Kia Spectra, start by removing the door panel. This typically involves unscrewing screws and gently prying off the panel clips. Once the panel is off, disconnect the window regulator and any wiring connected to the window. Finally, carefully remove the broken glass and install the new window by securing it in place, reconnecting the regulator, and reassembling the door panel.
I haven't done lately, but for most GM vehicles of that time period you do this: 1-Remove interior door trim. 2-Unplug window motor. 3-Remove the two bolts or nuts (10 mm head) attaching the glass to the regulator. 4-Slide the glass about 2/3 of the way down, tip it forward, and slide it out of the door. 5-Remove the four bolts (10 mm head) holding the regulator to the door. 6-Reverse the process using the new regulator.
I just changed the motor/regulator on a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee this morning. It took me about 1 1/2 hours total. I bought the general repair manual for the car at auto zone and it had step by step instructions for removing the door panel, removing the glass window, and for replacing the motor. it was about 7 bolts total to remove the motor/regulator assembly, and two pins to pop out with a flat head screw driver in order to dis lodge the window from its mechanism/lift arm. I am by no means a mechanic and know very little about repair, but this repair was easy. I recommend you buy that book at any auto parts store and there will be your answer.
