I just replaced mine last week on both headlights on my Subaru legacy L. Outback model should be the same. The one on the right (driver side) is easier to do since you'll have a lot of room to work it. First remove the battery out and you should see immediately the wiring on the headlight. Remove the connector by pinching the top plastic arm and it should come off easy. There is a round plastic cover before you get to the bulb. Remove it by twisting it anti-clockwise. Pull the bulb out and replace it with a new one. You should also replace the one on the left side also(passenger side). That way, the light brightness will be balanced and even while you turn them on.
The passenger side needs just a little more work but you can get to it. You need to remove the intake air manifold to get easy access to it and do the same exact thing as you did on driver's side. .
it is behind the passenger side headlight assembly. you will have to remove the headlight assembly to replace it.
