Yes, you can apply dielectric grease to the cap and rotor contacts to help prevent corrosion and ensure a good electrical connection. However, it's important to use it sparingly to avoid interfering with the electrical flow. Additionally, avoid applying grease directly to the spark plug terminals or ignition coil contacts, as this can hinder performance. Always check your vehicle's specifications for any specific recommendations.

Should you put dielectric grease on new cap and rotors?

Noway! It's a bad idea and isn't necessary. It is okay to put it on the distributor cap button though.

What causes erattic power especially when cold under avg to light throttle load has new cap rotor plugs?

Hi, Since youv'e replaced your cap and rotor you also might look at your wires. They could have one cracked because when cold there could be some moisture that gets in and when the engine has run a while and the wires are warm the moisture is eliminated. You could have also broken a wire slightly when you replaced the cap, also did you remember to put the dielectric grease in the wire ends before you put them back on the cap and is the coil wire on securely? Those are what I would look for first. Good luck to you.

Can you use vaseline to grease the distributor sockets to make it easier to put wires on sockets?

No. Use dielectric (silicon) grease.

How do you remove rotor button on 5.7 V8?

These things got really stuck sometimes. If you intend to replace the rotor, I have found that it is often easier to squeeze the old rotor with "channel lock / water pump pliers and shatter it. This prevents the possibility of damagintg the Hall Effect Switch under the rotor. Put a dab of dielectric grease on the shaft before you install the new rotor. Good Luck!

How do you install a rotor cap in a Chevy Silverado?

Is it okay to use Vaseline on a light bulb to make it easier to put in and get out?

Dielectric grease would be a better choice.

How do you replace the distributo cap ad rotor on a 1981 Datsun 200sx?

Very easily. 1st you pull the spark plug wires off the old cap and put them on the new cap in the same exact order they were on the old one. 2nd you then pull the cap off where you will then find the rotor. 3rd pull the rotor off and put the new one on in the same exact place facing the same exact direction. 4th put the new cap with the wires on then fire it up.

What happens if you put the rotor inside the cap backwards inside a car?

Rotors can only go in correctly one way and will usually snap in place. If you manage to put one in backwards the car will not start and it will likely tear up the cap and rotor.

What position does the rotor go under the distributor cap?

On number one terminal, put engine at tdc on 1. If engine/rotor hasn't moved, leave rotor alone.

How do you assembly front wheel bearings?

They come assembled-all you do is grease them put in rotor and slide on spindle for disc brakes.

How do you change front rotors on 1997 Fl50 2wd?

After removing the tire and brake caliper, you need to take off the dust cap, remove the pin holding the nut and nut lock on, the nut lock and the nut. Then pull the rotor out and push it back in so you are able to get to and remove the outer bearing. Then just pull out the rotor. You will need to tap out the inner bearing and seal from the rotor and repack them or replace them with new ones. Once you have the rotor out, you will need new bearings and a seal for the new rotors. You will need to pack the bearings with high temp. grease and put them back in the reverse order you took them out. Once you have the inside bearing and seal in the rotor, put the rotor back on and then put in the outer bearing. Screw the nut back on by hand DO NOT USE ANY WRENCH OR TOOLS TO DO THIS! While screwing the nut back rotate the roter counter clock wise to remove any excess grease from the bearings. Once the nut is hand tight against the rotor, replace the nut lock, pin and dust cap. Now all you have to do is put the break caliper and tire back on and off you go.
