It is a wiper arm (usually passenger side) that is articulated with multiple hinges to help the wiper reach up higher into the upper corner of the windshield covering more of the windshield than standard non articulated arms. These are found on the Toyota Prius/Lexus RX/HS, most Mercedes, and BMW's (but not the most recent BMW's)
# Raise the rear wiper arm finish cap to expose the wiper arm nut. # Remove the rear wiper arm nut (1). # Lift the rear wiper arm assembly (2) away from the rear window and remove the wiper arm from the pivot shaft. The cap tilts up toward the arm
To replace the wiper arm on a Mazda 626, first lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it is at a 90-degree angle. Locate the small tab or clip on the underside of the wiper arm where it attaches to the wiper motor shaft, press it to release the arm. Carefully pull the wiper arm off the shaft, then align the new wiper arm with the shaft and push it down until it clicks into place. Finally, lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield and ensure it is secure.
Remove the wiper arm retaining clip. The retaining clip will be just below the wiper arm connection. Hold the retaining clip in and the wiper arm will come off.
look at the half circle clip on the side of wiper arm. lift the wiper arm and pull the clip out as far as it goes the wiper arm should rest on the clip and now be "locked" up in the air . now you should be able to remove the wiper arm

The rear window wiper arm will have a retaining clip at the bottom of the wiper arm. Hold the retaining clip in with two fingers and pull outward on the rear wiper arm.
1. Bad Wiper Blade(s). 2. Improperly connected to wiper arm. See related link for troubleshooting. 3. Wiper Blade is binding on wiper arm for some other reason other than improperly installed. 4. Improper Wiper Arm Tension - clean and lubercate wiper arm hinge area at base of arm near hood. Replace spring if cleaning and lubercating doesn't work. 5. Bent wiper arm. BE CAREFUL HERE - THIS IS A LAST RESORT. Try bending arm back or replace arm.

A wiper arm on a 2001 Honda Civic is screwed on. To remove it unscrew the mounting hardware and take off the wiper arm.
To remove the wiper arm on a 2008 Chevy Impala, first lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it is in a vertical position. Locate the small plastic cover at the base of the wiper arm and gently pry it off to expose the nut underneath. Use a socket wrench to remove the nut, then wiggle the wiper arm back and forth while pulling it upward to detach it from the wiper shaft. Repeat the process for the other wiper arm if needed.
