See the link to the right for details, or here is more input:

  • The First World War, known as the Great War and as World War One (abbreviated WWI) after 1939, was a world conflict lasting from August 1914 to the final Armistice on November 11, 1918. The Allied Powers (led by Britain, France, Russia until 1917, and the United States after 1917), defeated the Central Powers (led by the German Empire, Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Ottoman Empire). The war caused the disintegration of four empires (Austro-Hungarian, German, Ottoman, and Russian) as well as radical change in the European and Middle Eastern maps. The Allied powers before 1917 are sometimes referred to as the Triple Entente, and the Central Powers are sometimes referred to as the Triple Alliance.
  • About 8,500,000 soldiers were killed in World War 1, from all nations. The total with civilians is over 20,000,000. It is hard to answer even seemingly objective, fact-based questions such as this one. Historians research the numbers and they get larger.

Allies:

Military dead: 5 million

Civilian deaths: 3 million

Total of dead: 8 million

Central Powers:

Military dead: 4 million

Civilian deaths: 3 million

Total dead: 7 million

  • Germany: 1,808,000
  • Austria-Hungary: 1,200,000
  • Russia: 1,700,000
  • France: 1,385,000
  • England: 947,000
  • Poland: 500,000
  • Italy: 460,000
  • Turkey: 350,000
  • Romania: 350,000
  • USA: 115,000
  • Australia: 60,000

Total Estimated: 8,500,000

Wounded: 19,536,000

The Encyclopedia Britannica says that 8,500,000 soldiers were killed in the war and 13,000,000 civilians including victims of the influenza epidemic of 1918.

There was a total of 8 Million Deaths in World War One. 5 Million of these deaths, were from the military of Entente Powers, Allies. The other 3 Million were from the Central Powers Military.
