It absolutely does work. I got one about a year ago and to this day it is the single greatest investment that I have ever made, losing around 40 pounds, (230-190). I haven't really changed my diet at all either, so this is truly all the total gym. I still eat all the bad stuff that I used to eat (its hard to stop). I have also gained alot of muscle mass, I'm semi-built now thanks to the total gym.

I would say that taking acai while trying to lose weight is not a bad idea because it is a powerful antioxidant and it is natural. That being said it is totally safe and even beneficial to your health. However, acai by itself will not make you lose a significant amount of weight. You will need to exercise and diet if you really want to lose weight.
