The heart works like any other muscle. The more you exercise, the harder the heart has to work to pump the blood around the body. Thus increasing the strength of the cardiac muscle.

It does not strengthens your health neither does it strengthens your lungs. Aerobics exercise does improve your cardio/recovery time.

You have to understand that you get tired because your heart/body is having a hard time to recover from the physical activities you do. The better your "recovery" is, the stronger your heart, lungs and body will be while doing exercise
