'''It might be long but it has useful info!''' '''Alfred Wegner's Theory''' Wegner's (pronounced vegner because he was German) theory was that millions and millions of years ago, the seven continents were all joined together in a large continent called Pangaea. Pangaea means "whole earth", do you get it? Obviously, the continents are not joined together now. This explains ''continental drift''; another part of Wegner's theory. Continental drift is the slow movement of continents. Pangaea's continents slowly started drifting away from each other to where they are now. Many people think Wegner's theory is whacky, he has proof though. '''Proof:''' '''Evidence 1:''' Don't the continents look like a puzzle? If you look on a world map, doesn't it look like South America can fit perfectly into Africa? Many oher continents can do that; look at a world map closely. '''Evidence 2:''' Now, all the continents are very well apart. How come north Africa shares the same fossils as South America? Many countries share the same fossils, but they are on the other side of the word. The only way that could be is if all the continents were once together but separated by continental drift. Go on any search engine and look up images of Pangaea; it's pretty cool. It makes a lot of sense, right? I'm pretty sure Wegner is right. But is you don't believe in his theory of Pangaea or continental drift, look it up and get more research on it. I hope this was helpful and informational for you! Thanks!

Why was wegners continental drift hypothesis rejected by the scientific community?

because he couldn't explain what forces caused the continents to move... :D yup that's why

Why didnt other scientist support wegners theory?

Other scientists initially rejected Alfred Wegener's theory of continental drift due to a lack of a plausible mechanism explaining how continents could move. Wegener proposed that continents drifted through the oceanic crust, but he could not provide sufficient evidence for this process. Additionally, the prevailing belief in fixed continents and the dominance of geological theories, such as land bridges and sedimentary processes, made it difficult for his ideas to gain traction. It wasn't until the development of plate tectonics in the mid-20th century that Wegener's ideas were vindicated.

The scientists of wegeners time should have accepted his hypothesis why or why not?

yes because they didnt know how wegners inteligence was and they should have tried it in the firts place anyway it would have helped relize that his hypothesis waas correct when they dobt of him!

What is a unifying explanation for a broad range of observations facts and tested hypothesis?

It is a scientific theory

How does a theory develop?

Theory-practice-theory take existing theory in education, apply to distance learning, develop new theory Practice-research-theory see what is happening in distance learning, submit to research, develop theory from results Theory-theory-research/practice build on an initial theory to develop a second theory, then apply and test it

Who first suggested there was a pangeae or a continental drift?

In the year 1911 a German meteorologist noticed that the contents looked like the fit in together. Wegner (Veg-ner) did some research regarding the subject. Wegners theory states that parts of the Earths crust slowly drift atop a liquid core. Landforms fossils and climates helped support his theory. There were two big flaws in Wegners theory; there was no feasible explanation for the cause of Continental drift because you can be on top of something liquid and not move and that there was no evidence that continents plowed through the ocean basin. No one believed Wegner's theory. 20 years later Wegner died and then after another 20 years we developed the technology and proved Wegners theory.

Why did scientists reject wegners theory of continental drift?

Scientist rejected Wegners hypothesis of continental drift at first because he did not have enogh evidence to support his theory. He failed to provide a suitable mechanism that could cause the continents to move.
