A story teller is a real, live person who does verbally what the narrator does in print.
First of all, the story or novel must be in the third person. If there seems to be a narrator who has a distinctive voice, who knows the thoughts and feelings of all the characters and seems to know all that has happened and will happen in the story, the work is in the omniscient point of view. If the story reads like a newspaper article, relating just the facts, then the point of view is objective. If insight into thoughts and feelings are limited to one character, then the perspective is third person attached, also called limited omniscience or central intelligence.
