Tapping on the patellar tendon stretches receptors called the muscle spindles in the quadriceps muscle group of the anterior thigh. This stimulus evokes a rapid motor reflex to contract the quadriceps and shorten the muscles. This process is called the patellar reflex.
The knee-jerk reflex is a type of stretch reflex, which is a type of spinal reflex. It involves the stimulation of sensory neurons in the muscle spindles of the quadriceps muscle, leading to a quick contraction of the muscle in response to a sudden stretch.

The effector muscle for the calcaneal reflex (also known as the Achilles reflex) is the gastrocnemius muscle in the calf. When the Achilles tendon is tapped, it causes a contraction of the gastrocnemius muscle, resulting in plantar flexion of the foot.
This particular reflex is autonomic as the affected muscle, constrictor pupillae muscle, is a smooth muscle and not under conscious control. Typically if you can consciously contract the muscle, any reflex associated with that muscle is somatic in nature.
The myotatic reflex is provoked by activation of muscle spindles in a stretched muscle. These muscle spindles are sensory receptors that detect changes in muscle length and help regulate muscle contraction and body position. When a muscle is stretched, the muscle spindles send signals to the spinal cord, leading to a reflex contraction to prevent overstretching.
When the leg is straight, the muscle spindle receptors in the quadriceps muscle are not stretched enough to stimulate a reflex response. The reflex occurs when the muscle is quickly lengthened, activating the sensory receptors in the muscle and sending a signal to the spinal cord to trigger a reflexive contraction of the quadriceps muscle.
