The black death reached Europe in 1347, probably first through Italy via ships from the Eastern Mediterranean. Over the next 10-12 years it touched virtually every part of Europe, as well as the Middle East and North Africa. Estimates of overall losses are that as much as one third of the population of Europe died in that period. That is only an average, some localities had much higher death rates. There are known examples of towns having death rates of up to 90%. The worst of the plague was over by the end of the 1350's, but it continued to flare up for centuries, and there were smaller outbreaks until the 18th century.

There were three strains of the Black Death. The bubonic strain, that infected ones skin and pores. It would cause large boils. This was the most common strain. As far as I know, you cannot catch it from contact. You could however, catch it from an infected flea that came from their person. There was also the septic strain, that infected the blood, and could be passed via transfer of fluids. And lastly, the pneumonic strain, that infected the lungs. This was contagious.

King's Lynn was a port town, and like most other ports almost certainly got the plague from ships that carried in infected rats.
in ancient time, fleas rode on rats as a host. The union of them made the fleas infected with the disease. When the rats died, the fleas went to other hosts like humans most of the time, spreding the disease to them.

The Danse Macabre or Dance of death, was most common in paintings around the time of the Black Plague outbreak in Europe. The reason why it is called the dance of death is because if you where infected with the plague some people would loose control over their limbs and movement when this happened they appeared to be dancing. well this is what my history teacher told me.

The Black Death disappeared in winter because the whole plague came from infected fleas, and in the winter, fleas are dormant, so the fleas couldn't bite people to spread the disease. However, in the summer, fleas are not dormant, so they continue to spread the Black Death to people. This is ironic because most sicknesses are worse in the winter than in the summer.
