As the western part of the Roman Empire was disintegrating, they expanded into central Gaul (486), took over the area of southern Germany Switzerland and Austria which had been occupied by the Alemanni (502), pushed the Visigoths out of Aquitania (south-western France, 507 and 531) and conquered the lands of the Burgundians in eastern Gaul (533), thus taking over the whole of Gaul (France).
