Freedom of speech has nothing to do with preserving our American culture. There is nothing wrong with trying to preserve your own culture in the US. African Americans, Latinos and others do it all the time.

In the beginning of the 20th century, Americans were superb at instilling assimilation values into immigrants. Now, we are taught to be ashamed of our oppressive ways and let anyone do whatever they want, including making demands for special accommodation
The truth is, the immigrants of the early 20th century adapted very quickly, finding success, comfort and happiness from their assimilation.
If we were able to return to this success story, the dominating nature of Islam would be diffused, and perhaps, it would just be another "church" and not a political or social force to be reckoned with.
