No it's not the same, WW2 ended September 2, 1945.

Please note that Wikipedia should not be used as a source for your essay or homework, use the references on the bottom of the page instead. The Cold War and World War 2 are not the same. World War 2 was a hot war, with huge armies and navies shooting at each other. Germany, Ital, Japan and a few lesser countries were on one side. They were opposed by the United States, United Kingdom, Soviet Union, France, Canada, Australia, and numerous other nations with smaller military capabilities. World War 2 began in September 1939 and ended in 1945 with the surrender of Japan. The countries allied against Germany and Japan often called them selved "the united nations" and that term was carried over after the war when the international organization was created. The Cold War was a confrontation between the Soviet Union and the other Communist countries on one side and the US and other capitolist countries (mostly with democratic governments, on the other. Although there were some small proxy wars within the Cold War, there was not massive fighting between the main opponents. The Cold War was known to be in progress by about 1948 and it lasted until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the disintegration of the Soviet Union a few years after that.
