The records for units are categorized by unit (parent unit first, if applicable) at the National Archive Records (NARA) at College Park, MD. You can visit there and review files or pay them to copy the records, which could include Operational Reports, After Action Reports, General Orders(to include decorations issued by that unit). History of 281st Field ARtillery Battalion received credit for the following Campaigns: Central Europe & Rhineland. Activated 10 May 1943 at Camp Cooke, CA and inactivated 4 Dec 1945 at Camp Kilmer, NJ. It performed Occupation Duty from May to Sept 30, 1945 in Germany. According to a Veteran's biography in link below, the 281FA was operated 105mm Howitzers and was assigned to the 3rd Army. You can contact the Department of Defense in the USA or call or email the people at the United States World War 2 Museum to find out if they have any records of who died first (in any race, age, place of origin or by name). See the link below
Unfortunately there is no list - the only official records of military awards are stored in individual service records, and many records were destroyed in a fire in 1972, precluding the possibility of any definitive list ever being created.
