There are two types of volunteer recruits: 1. The new man KNOWs what he wants and commences to negotiate to get it. 2. The new man Doesn't know what he wants. Assistance for #2-If a man does NOT know what he wants then he must look at what the military CONSISTS of. If the man likes flying, he studies the Air Force AND Aviation branches of the US Coast Guard, US Navy, US Marine Corps and the US Army (which had during the Vietnam War the LARGEST Helicopter Force in the world). If a man likes to be around boating: then he STUDIES the US Coast Guard/US Navy/US Marines. If the man likes off-road vehicles, then it's best to STUDY the US Army (The Marines are not as heavy into it as the Army is). If a man just wants to learn a skill for civilian employment, the US Air Force & US Navy are best for that, they are 98% technical. If an individual wants adventure, in the military...that's part of the job. The US Coast Guard may offer the most adventure as they perform rescue missions 24-7, war or no war! Once the new man KNOWs what he wants, then he studies the benefits package (Pensions/Retirement, Medical Treatment/Benefits/Insurance, College/Trade School Financial Assistance Programs-used to be called just the "GI Bill"; Bonus Packages (extra money for doing certain jobs), Re-enlistment Packages (extra money for staying in the Army longer). Most new people in the military plan on doing "their time" then leaving when their time is up. Those that STAY in the service, making it a 20 year career...normally will not know that they want to STAY until they've been in it for 3 or more years.
