Hitler didn't believe that France and Great Britain would go to war over Poland. Once the war was on, Germany attempted to find a peace with France and Great Britain but failed. Germany then embarked on a series of operations to create security in the west. First Norway was invaded to preserve iron ore shipments. Then the conquest of France in 1940. Hitler and Germany wanted revenge for the losses of World War I and the defeat of France was part of the plan. After the Fall of France again Germany tried to deal with Great Britain. The Brits would not budge. The Battle of Britain was a mistake that cost Germany much of its air power. The German believed that with France subdued, the British were less of a threat. The Germans sent some troops to back up Italy in North Africa and began a massive effort to build a huge submarine fleet to destroy the British merchant fleet. The Germans planned to Invade Russia in early 1941, but were forced to delay in order to deal with Yugoslavia and Greece. Italy's mistakes in North Africa and in Greece cost Germany Men and time. By the time of invasion of Russia in June 1941 the German Air Force had still not rebuilt itself.
The question was why did the Germans invade Russia. Germany's main goal in the war was living space for its people. Hitler saw the vast Soviet Union as a perfect place to settle the new German people he was breeding.
The German military believed in fast campaigns and hoped to avoid the vast killing fields of World War I. Quick fast wars were cheaper. The major features of Hitler's strategy were fast conquests, defeating the western powers and a huge land grab from the Soviet Union. Given time, Hitler believed that his Fortress Europa could resist any attempts from the outside to dislodge German occupation. He failed because he could not conquer Russia, which would have provided immense resources. And because the Allies benefitted greatly from the entrance of the US into the war in December, 1941.
Geli Raubal .
The strategy of Overlord was to confuse the Germans as to where and when landings would take place, and to land the maximum number of men and armoured vehicles by sea and air on the FIRST day. The sheer power of 175,000 men with many AFV's worked and forced the Germans back.
"Europe First" strategy
The first crude forms were designed by Adolf Hitlers team of scientists for chemical warfaire and also to enhance his troops.
Invasion of the USSR was Hitler's biggest mistake.

Strategy First was created in 1988.
Hitler never had any children.
Germany strategy during the first and second world war was strategic bombing, use of chemical weapons and the massacre of civilians capable of fighting against them.
France had already fallen, Russia was holding it's own, so the US's strategy was to SAVE England (Great Britain) FIRST (Europe also), then defeat Japan. A LARGE part of this strategy stemmed from Churchill's constant lobbying efforts with US President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Had it not been for Churchill's efforts, Roosevelt may have had his Admirals & Generals do as they wished...as was attacking Japan in retaliation for their attacks on the United States. The people of the United States wanted to fight Japan...Roosevelt & Churchill were guided to fight Germany first (to save Great Britain).
