In eastern Europe, where the Soviet Union occuppied the Baltic States, Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Rumania, Bulgaria & East Germany the communist governments were imposed on the people by force. In Yugoslavia, the Serb led government of Tito, a communist, was imposed on that country as well.
In Western Europe there were communist political parties in the various countries, however their support from the people was not very significant. In most places, votes for communism after WW2 were less than prior to WW2.
Resistance to communist government dictatorships increased throughout Europe during the Cold War, as people saw what happened to those people in communist nations.

∙ 12y agoThere are many possible reasons. Many Europeans may have favored Communism due to their previous inerest or affiliation with leftist/Communist/Socialist organizations. Also, the Communists were the primary enemies of Fascist Germany and Italy both during the war (in which the Soviets took the brunt of German agression) and before it (when the Germans massacred many who were members of or sympathizers with German leftist groups).
