Superstitions in that time of history tended to be area or ethnically specific, so the superstitions of one area would be different from another area. Also a number of things you would today consider a superstition, were in that time frame, commonly accepted facts.

Weather omens are often lumped into this section, for example - if it was raining out and you wanted to know if it was going to stop any time soon, you would have looked at your chickens... if they were out in the yard, scratching and doing chicken things, the rain would continue for hours. If your chickens were huddling under cover, the rain would stop soon. These days, most people do not have chickens to look at in their front yard, so this sort of thing is ow considered a superstition... Back then it was an accurate weather forecaster.
