Check it
On top of the brake pedal there is the shaft that connects the brake pedal to the brake switch.
There could be of two problems with your tail lights being constantly on.
1: The spacer between the the brake pedal switch and the shaft of the brake pedal is broke ( The brake pedal switch which is bout the size of a cork has a tip at the end that moves in out of the switch easily.) This broken spacer will cost about a buck at your local auto store. Easy to fix. This is mostly likely the case... if that doesn t work
2: The switch need to be replaced. Fairly easy for the do-it yourselfer, will cost around $25 for the switch.
Save you alot of money and time if you check for yourself these two steps in ascending order. Hope it helps.
Most likely a bad bulb but could be a bad switch or fuse. Note that sometimes trailer hitch harnesses and license plate bulbs are on the same circuit and can cause issues. See sources and related links below if it ends up being a bulb issue.
this is probably because you have a short in the switch or a short to power
as far as I've seen the person who asked this question is a prick and dumb as hell.
Look up under your dash where the brake pedal is attached, you will see a switch that makes the brake lights turn on when you step on the pedal and off when you leave off the pedal. The switch is probably stuck. In the meantime you could disconnect the negative battery cable so your battery doesn't die.
Because the lights were turned on manually instead of letting the automatic headlight illumination circuitry do its own thing. Turn the switch to "OFF" - it's part of the turn indicator arm.
The brake light switch needs adjustment. Located on the brake pedal swing arm. Adjust until the light comes on when the pedal is moved 1/4 inch.
AnswerBad break light switch. It is located on or near the brake pedal swing arm.Try looking at http://z31.com/repairs/brakepedal/Also check the installation of the bulbs in the rear lights. If they aren't seated right, they will connect the brake light circuit with the running light circuit. Weird symptoms, and not that rare.
The switch for the fog lights is above the radio, next to the rear window defrost button and the traction control defeat button.
This usually means a bad or wrong bulb in the tail lights
if you leave the parking lights switch "ON" the lights will remain on, even if the car has been turned off.
If they go out within 5 minutes, you have automatic headlight delay. If they stay on forever, you have an electrical problem.
My Brake tail Lights Stay on when my car is complete turned off and my lights are off to.
There is no electricity going to the lights of an automobile if the light switch inside the car is off. The main switch cuts off all current to the lights, both front and rear. There will be current to the tail lights if the brake is applied.
I have same problem have you figured it out yet?
The rear lights of your car will still on even if your car was off because the switch was turned on and it will still remain on until the battery's out. Another possibility, if the headlight switch is off and the ignition switch is off, the brake light switch may be out of adjustment or broken and what you're seeing is the brake lights on.
Because the switch is in the on position
1993 jaguar xj6 Tail lights turn on and off
It could be a combination of two simple problems. First, check that your parking light switch on the top of your steering column is OFF, as this will keep the lights on even if the ignition switch is off. I believe this switch is necessary because your lights turn off automatically when you turn of the engine (ignition switch) Aslo, you must check your (combination tail light and brake light) rear bulbs as this could cause the break and tail lights to remain on when the car is started (ignition is on). GOOD LUCK !
your fuse is blown. car manufacturerers make the dash lights go off when the tail light fuse blows so you know it is blown.
Take a hammer to the tail lights then they will shut off but you might have to get them replaced or somting The tail lights you see may actually be the brake lights stuck on because of a faulty or out of adjustment brake light switch.
