I've lived in Corpus Christi for 30 years and the popular story I hear regarding the name is as follows.... The Indian tribes living in the area were being chased down by the US calvary to be relocated to reservations... Many of the tribes fled and were chased to the end of the water line. The cavalry troops, thinking they had the Indians cornered bedded down for the night, awaiting morning to attack. However, the Indians, knowing the area very well, knew that the bay they were supposedly "trapped" by would in fact be their savior. The waters of this bay were fairly shallow, as you can tell by all the wade fisherman you see out there today... Under the cover of night, the tribes waded through the bay and away from the cavalry. The soldiers awoke the next morning to find an empty point where the Indians once were. That is why they call it Indian Point.

Now, I admit, I have no idea if this story is even remotely true or not. This is just the story I have heard from MANY different sources around town (fishing guides, grandparents, fisherman, etc)
