African people participated in the slave trade as they were forced too and would be killed otherwise. The captures would also kill their family and friends and burn their houses. If they did not go, they would lose their lives, although most of them died on the ship journeys to where ever they were going. No one dared to form a party against them as it was usually the Americans doing the trade and they were to strong, rich and power full to make a stand against. Still to this day illegal trades do happen, but it is done in great secrecy and is usually discovered.

∙ 15y agoPower, basicly people want workers who work for free, so if a tribe of primitive people stumble accross, you take them hostage, sell them or make them work to death. Without spending money the economy would grow making the country richer. While individguals would take part in the slave trade, big money there, everyone wants slaves. Im Africaans so i am familiar with the subject.

∙ 12y agoAfricans became ideal choice for slaves because they were highly skilled when it came to agriculture. They planted a lot of sugar canes, cocoa, cotton, corns e.t.c, which was what the Europe empire were exporting.
