The same reason why any race is racist against the other, racism is not just between blacks and whites. There are white people that are racist, there are black people that are racist, there are Asians that are racist, Pacific Islanders that are racist, there are Islamic people that are racists, Native Americans that are racist, Indians that are racist, and the list goes on… In specific to your question asked it is quite a broad question that depends on the individual and there circumstances. It could be because of upbringing for example in Germany during the period of the Holocaust children were taught by society that Jews were not equal to what was considered regular citizens or even human. So a white person may be raised in an environment were black people are not considered worthy. It is also because humans segregate as part of survival technique and every race needs a scapegoat. If your really interested in educating yourself further on the issue I would suggest taking sociology and psychology classes to fully understand the complexity of the issues as white people are also racists against other white people. Black people are racist against other black people, Asians are racist against other Asians and so forth.

Most African-Americans can trace their roots to slavery. In the old times, slavery was abundant in the Southern US and Europe. This is because Africans were mainly sold by their old people to the Europeans for money, weapons, or other trading items. The Europeans then used these people as slaves for labor, and the tradition carried to the US. However, when slavery was abolished in Europe, it was still popular in the US, and remained until the end of the Civil War. Even still, African-Americans did not receive equal status as European-Americans until about the 1960s. This was because of a period of segregation, where whites and blacks were separated socially and politically. This idea can trace its origins to Social Darwinism, which the Europeans used during their times of exploration and Imperialism. Social Darwinism is the belief that one race is superior, which the Europeans believed they were.

Many whites did not believe that the blacks were people. They saw them as nothing more than animals, so they didn't feel anything for abusing them, like they would if they had been abusing their own since they literally thought that blacks were not people.

In history, blacks were treated badly because of the color of their skin. White people defined them as a lower class and made to be slaves.

Racism. Simply Racism.

And at that time, the 'white' people had better technology (guns) than the Africans.

Not so much 'racism' which is a more recent concept.

It is a shame ignorant people keep perpetuating this obvious falsehood. Is it not strange that educated people don' believe this.
