Any idea why the whole gauge unit on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee would stop working Speedo tach oil and so on thanks?

well i had the same problem on my 1997 Jeep country and the problem was that there is a fuse in the fuse box under you hood that should be labled IOD and that is the fuse that controls all the controls on your dash..i replaced that one in my jeep and everything worked just fine..if not that then somthing electrical prolly

You have a ground from the oil sender unit to the gauge. This is how you check a gauge. ground out the wire at the sender and it pegs out the gauge.

Pull the speedo and gauge package out of dash. Unhook wiring. Remove speedo cable from speedometer. Pull speedo cable out of housing, lube it lightly and re-insert. Hook everything back up and re-install gauges. Pull the speedo and gauge package out of dash. Unhook wiring. Remove speedo cable from speedometer.
