Check the fuse for the instrument lights, it may be blown. Another possibility is that you have inadvertently turned the instrument lights off. You can Rotate the headlight switch to adjust the instrument light brightness or to turn them off altogether.

The 2001 Land Rover Discovery 2 OBD 2 port is on lower right corner of dash, next to console
If you are referring to the factory supplied radio, it is not a 'component' type radio. It must be removed from the dash and dis-assembled.
i believe the heater core is leaking, a small pin hole leak can generate a lot of smell.
I have no idea. Did you ever solve this? My dash board lights became very dim whenever I had the headlights on and my battery light kicked on occasionally. I thought it was the alternator so I just replaced it. The battery light issue is solved but the dash light brightness is still extremely low whenever I turn the headlights on.
To adjust the brightness of the radio clock display on the Renault Scenic, simply turn the wheel control adjuster that is next to the headlamp adjuster. This is located to the right of the steering column on the dash.
To adjust the brightness of the display you should find a wheel control the same as the headlamp adjuster right next to the said adjuster. You will find it forward of your right knee to the right of the steering column on the dash.
Check the dimmer setting for the dash lights. There should be a dial to adjust the brightness on the dash to the left of the steering wheel.

If you mean the lights, it's probably just the headlight switch itself, which can be rotated to adjust the brightness of the dash lights. Turn it back and forth to see if the dash lights wake up. If you mean the dash electronics altogether, that'd be wiring.. probably a ground - get a schematic and get to it. check ur fusebox..fuse might be blown
They should just dim. By turning the headlights on, the engineers assumed it would be dark. Often there's a knob or wheel on the dash where you can adjust the brightness of your gauge lights.
