Hardcore is a subgenre of Punk that originated in North America in the late 1970s. Some of the original punk bands disbanded, or moved onto more experimental genres such as post-punk and art punk. In the States, hardcore emerged with a new sound, which was generally thicker, heavier, and faster than standard punk rock. It is sometimes characterized by short, loud, and passionate songs about serious topics such as government, capatalism, anarchism, war and the new hardcore culture itself.

Most music in this genre involves swearing, vulgar naming of either sex, narrations about instigating a crime and fighting, rape, and generally breaking the law.
