What parts of the drum have to be strong?

All parts have to be strong, the metal drum hoops need to be strong as they apply tension to the drum head, the tension lugs need to be to stop them breaking under strain, the shell has to be as the tension lugs are fixed to it and if too weak the lugs will be ripped off the shell. The same applies to the stands, mounting brackets etc.

What is the meaning of suspeded drum?

A suspended drum is held up by something called a "suspender" (:not a suspender that country folk wear;) that is placed ontop of the lugs on the side of the drum shell (they're chrome colored). Then are held down by the tention rods that are screwed into the lugs when putting the drum rim and head on. Their purpose is to reduce rattling (if I'm correct) and let the drum ring more freely. Check out suspenders at "drumjunction.com" if you would like.

Lugs are the pieces of hardware on the drum itself where the tension rods screw into. The tension rods screw into the lugs. And the tension rods pull down the drum hoop, which, in turn, will pull down the drum head.

How do you remove a rear brake drum from a 1991 tempo?

when ford assembled the car they put the drum on and then put a crimp at the edge of all the lug bolts. take a wire brush and clean around the lugs right at the drum and you will see where the threads are pinched, by doing this the miss shaped metal holds the drum tight on the axle, use a grinder or a file to remove the burrs and the drum can be removed with a mall, be careful not to damage the lugs to much when doing this.

How do you remove a rear brake drum on a fiat ducato?

just unscrew the two wheel locating lugs on the drum (make sure the handbrake is off) give the drum a gentle tap with a hammer and it will come off with a bit of wiggling, however if the drum is seized on the best option is to screw 3 x10mm bolts into the drum, these holes are located in-between the holes for the wheel nuts, screw them in alternatively so the drum comes away evenly

What are the external fittings of the drum?

The metal pieces that are mounted to the shell of the drum are called the "Mounting Lugs". The bolts that go into them are called "Tension rods". Usually there is a washer and a "Claw Hook" that the tension rod goes through which fastens to the "Hoop" or "Rim" which holds the drum head to the drum, and tunes it.
