What is the value of a 1990 Yamaha cg 180 SA guitar?

I am working on this same question for a friend.

The CG180 SA was Made from 89 to 99. considered by many as their at the time "top of the line"

Value and what you can sell it for are two different things.

Researching the web I have found at least ten for sale. All in Fair to excelent condition. All of these are with a Hard shell case.

The least expensive - $159 and listed as VERY GOOD condition.

Several are in music stores at $555 ( has been repaired) and one at $685.

one at eBay for $325. Two on Craigslist at $350.

But NONE have SOLD.

So average value? probably is about $350

In this economy? you might be lucky to sell it for $100 -$200.

To replace it with a new Yamaha of equal value a CG 182 goes for NEW at $449 probably as close as you can get.

Sadly there is not a Good answer at this time. I have Guitars that have lost more than half of their SELLING value in the last year alone.

If it is in great cosmetic condition and fully working condition, a Yamaha CG-100A could bring $90 - $125 easily, particularly if you include an appropriate case with the sale. The classical guitar is portable, and out of town buyers would be willing to pay $25-$30 additional to have it shipped to their location, if you're selling it yourself. Expect about half this price if you prefer to bring the guitar into a resale shop for trade-in or sale (they'll have to resell it after you!)
