Proteins are made up of 20 amino acids. Your body can make 12 of them and 8 of them must come from the diet. The body uses these amino acids like we use letters of the alphabet. Just as we carefully select letters to make certain words that make sentences that communicates what we want to say, the body puts amino acids together to make different body parts.

For example, hair, nails, skin, hormones, enzymes, muscles and other stuff are made up different combination of amino acids to make parts of our body.

The steps the body uses to make protein vary depending upon what the body is making. There isn't one method the body uses to accomplish making protein.

Why doesn't the body store protein?

The body does store protein. Muscles are made almost entirely of protein, and when the body has a serious protein shortage, it can obtain protein from its muscles (which shrink accordingly).

Is proteins an element?

No, Protein is not an element. In science, an element is defined as a pure substance consisting of only one type of atom which can be distinguished by its atomic number. Since the definition does not fit protein, we can conclude that it is not an element. Biologically speaking, proteins are called organic compounds. Proteins are vital for the daily function of our body. Sources of protein include beef, chicken, beans and nuts. The body then uses all the proteins you have consumed to make specialised molecules each with a specific role in the body. For example, your body uses protein to make haemoglobin. Haemoglobin is the protein attached to the red blood cells that transport oxygen through the body.

Which does the body burn protein lipid minerals or vitamins?

What two steps must occur in protein synthesis?
