John's Gospel, which Elaine Pagels sees as containing an element of anti-Thomas narrative, has Thomas miss out on receiving the Holy Spirit. The Gospel says that Jesus met the disciples in an upper room in Jerusalem, with Thomas absent, and breathed on each of the disciples and gave them the Holy Spirit. He met the disciples again a few days later, when Jesus showed 'Doubting Thomas' his wounds, but did not give him the Holy Ghost.
However, Acts of the Apostles was in a somewhat different tradition, in which the disciples clearly had not received the Holy Spirit before Jesus was taken up into heaven. In this story, all the disciples - Thomas included - received the Holy Spirit as tongues of fire on the day of Pentecost.
No, once a person receives the Holy Spirit, it is believed to dwell within them permanently. The Holy Spirit is seen as a constant presence in the life of a believer, guiding, comforting, and empowering them in their faith.
Jesus told the apostles that once he was risen he would sent someone to be ever present and as a comforter. This refers to the Holy Spirit.
Every believer is indwelt by the Spirit of God. So how could a believer ever think of taking a body in which the Holy Spirit dwells and using it for vile purposes? Not only is the believer's body the shrine of the Holy Spirit, but in addition, the believer belongs to God. It is not for believers to take their bodies and use them the way they desire.
The answer from God's word:"The most obvious manifestation of the work of the Holy Spirit is being realistic and not conventional. Those who cannot keep up with the work of today and who are divorced from the practices of today are all ones who resist and refuse to accept the work of the Holy Spirit. All such people are ones who resist God's present work. Although they hold on to the former light, it cannot be denied that they are ones who do not know the work of the Holy Spirit. If one remains in one stage, it proves that he has failed to keep up with God's work and new light, and it does not prove that God's management plan is unchanged. Those outside the stream of the Holy Spirit always consider theirs to be right. Actually, God's work on them has long stopped, and they do not at all have the working of the Holy Spirit. God has long transferred his work onto another group of people, and he will accomplish his new work in these people. Because the people in religion refuse to accept his new work but only hold on to the former old work, he rejects them and does his new work on those who accept it. These people are the ones who cooperate with his new work. Only in this way can his management be accomplished. God's management is going forward all the time, and man's practice is becoming increasingly higher; God has always been working, and man always has needs. So that these two will advance to their peaks where God and man can be fully associated with each other. This will be a manifestation that the work has been brought to successful completion and will be the ultimate result of the entire management. When God does each stage of work, he makes corresponding requirements of man. All those in the stream of the Holy Spirit have the presence and discipline of the Holy Spirit, while those outside the stream of the Holy Spirit are under the control of satan and do not have the working of the Holy Spirit at all. Those in the stream of the Holy Spirit are the ones who accept God's new work. They are the ones who cooperate with God's new work. If anyone in this stream cannot cooperate or practice the truths required by God in this age, he will be disciplined, or worse still, will be deserted by the Holy Spirit. Since they are the ones who accept the new work of the Holy Spirit, they live in the stream of the Holy Spirit and are cared for and kept by the Holy Spirit. Those who are willing to practice the truth have the inspiration of the Holy Spirit; those who are not willing to practice the truth receive the discipline of the Holy Spirit or there is even punishment coming upon them. No matter who they are, as long as they are the ones in the stream of the Holy Spirit, God will, for his name's sake, be responsible for every one of them who accepts his new work. Those who glorify his name and who are willing to practice his word receive his blessings; those who disobey him and do not practice his word receive his punishments. Those in the stream of the Holy Spirit are the ones who accept the new work. Since they have accepted the new work, they should make corresponding cooperation with God and should not be disobedient ones who do not perform their duty. This is God's only requirement for man. Those who do not accept the new work, however, are different. They all are the ones outside the stream of the Holy Spirit and have no discipline or rebuke of the Holy Spirit at all. These people live in the flesh and in the mind all day long. What they practice is doctrines gained through their analyzing and studying according to their mind, not the requirements from the new work of the Holy Spirit, much less cooperation with God. Those who do not accept God's new work do not have God's presence at all, much less God's blessing or keeping. What they hold fast to in words and acts are mostly the requirements from the former work of the Holy Spirit, which are not the truths but doctrines. However, these doctrines and regulations are sufficient to prove that the congregation of these people is only religion, not the chosen people or the objects of God's work. The congregation of all of them can only be called the aggregate of religion, not church. This fact is unchangeable. They do not have the new work of the Holy Spirit. All that they do is full of religious flavor, and all that they live out carries religious color. They do not have the presence and the working of the Holy Spirit, much less have the qualification to receive the discipline or the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. All these people are lifeless corpses and spiritless maggots. They do not know man's disobedience and resistance or know any of man's evil deeds, much less know any work of God and God's present will. All these people are ignorant base ones and are scum who are not worthy to be called 'believers'! No matter what they do, it has nothing to do with God's management, much less can it damage God's plan. Their speeches and manners are too disgusting and pitiful, not worth mentioning at all." from "God's Work and Man's Practice" in The Word Appears in the Flesh"Why do I say that what people in the religious churches practice is old? Because what they practice is divorced from the present work. In the Age of the Grace, what they practice was right, but as the age has turned and the work has changed, their practices have gradually become old and have been cast behind by the new work and the new light. The work of the Holy Spirit has advanced several steps based on the former work, but they still remain in the former stage without any move and still hold on to the old practices and the old light. God's work will change greatly within three or five years. How much more greatly has it changed over two thousand years? If men have no new light or new practices, it is because they have failed to keep up with the work of the Holy Spirit, and it is their fault. You cannot deny the existence of the new work because those who had the working of the Holy Spirit before are still holding on to the old practices now. The work of the Holy Spirit is always progressing forward, so all the ones in the stream of the Holy Spirit should also advance and change progressively and should not just remain in one stage. Only those who do not know the work of the Holy Spirit will remain in the former work and refuse to accept the new work of the Holy Spirit. Only the disobedient ones cannot receive the work of the Holy Spirit. If men's practices cannot keep up with the new work of the Holy Spirit, their practices are surely divorced from the present work and are surely contradictory to it. Such old-fogies cannot accomplish God's will at all, much less become the ones who stand God's testimony in the end. And the entire management work cannot be ended on such a group of men. If those who once kept Jehovah's law and those who once suffered for the cross refuse to accept this final stage of work, all that they do will be in vain and futile."from "God's Work and Man's Practice" in The Word Appears in the Flesh"God will accomplish this fact: People in the entire universe will all come to meet God and worship the God on earth. God's work in all the other places will stop, and all people will be forced to search for the true way. It will be like the case of Joseph. Everyone went to him for things to eat and bowed down to him, because he had food to eat. In order to escape the disaster of starvation, all people will have to seek the true way. The entire religious world will suffer a severe famine. Only the God of today is the spring of living water and has the ever-flowing spring for people to enjoy. All people will turn to him.One day, even pastors of old age will have to send telegrams to seek the water from the spring of living water. They, though of advanced age, will have to worship this person they despised, confessing with their mouth and believing in their heart. Won't it be a miracle and wonder?"from "The Millennial Kingdom Has Come" in The Word Appears in the Flesh
I don't know specifically but I'm not aware that there's ever been a significant population of Buddhists is Jerusalem, so I suspect not. I may easily be mistaken.
The 12 Apostles received the Holy Spirit upon the Day of Pentecost. Ever after that, when ever new disciples were Baptized, the Apostles would lay their hands on the new disciples & they would receive the Holy Spirit.
When the holy spirit comes into a person , he is full of the holy ghost and is a changed person for ever.
Whom ever the Holy Spirit Chooses.
It began in the early Church with the Bishops laying their hands on Christians' foreheads, so that they may receive the Holy Spirit. The Church has kept up this tradition ever since.
The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Godhead. It is in spirit form and it can influence us by putting thoughts into our minds to help us in what ever we are doing. Joseph was so righteous that he had the Holy Spirit with him all the time to help him fulfill his responsibilites.
Pentecost is very important in that on the Day of Pentecost the disciples of Jesus Christ were given the Holy Spirit to dwell in them permanently. Sometime later the Holy Spirit was given to the Samaritan believers in Jesus and then a little bit later the Holy Spirit was given to the Gentile believers in Jesus. The Holy Spirit is what is so different in Christians from other persons. The Holy Spirit has been around from ever, but not until the Christian period began did the Holy Spirit indwell persons (Christians) like He does today. I Corinthians 2:14, " But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." The natural man will never know the things of God or what the Bible truly says because they do not have the Holy Spirit dwelling in them.
The holy spirit brings peace to the troubled soul of people, they will now experience a complete change in their lives , and many will notice their changed behavior for ever. They will never ever be the same again, nd it did not cost them anything either.
After God (the holy spirit) had finished making Adam and Eve (the first people), He told them all the rules of the garden. When God was walking in the garden one day, Adam and Eve saw Him.A different answer:Because the Holy Spirit is, by definition, a spirit, it is difficult to say that the Holy Spirit was ever "seen." Luke 3:22 says "the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form likea dove," but because that is a simile, or figurative language - like a dove - it is not meant to describe a literal event.
When you become a Christian the Holy Spirit enters you immediately. So, no only Christians have the Holy Spirit in them. Now, after if you pray and ask GOD to fill you with the baptism of fire you can be fill with the anointing a.k.a The Holy Ghost but that is only gifted to those who ask and believe.
That is a loaded question, the answer is "It depends" It depends upon the heart and mind of the person asking the Holy Spirit.... The only ones which are not asked, are the elect (such as the apostle Paul). There are usually election on the earth in small numbers at any given time. Everyone else is freewill and must ask the Holy Spirit to intervene. However there is a caveat, the Holy Spirit knows your intentions, so men cannot con the Holy Spirit. Have you ever wound up somewhere without much knowledge of why you were in that specific place at that specific time? That could very well be the Holy Spirit acting in your life. Read Acts chapter 2 for some specifics about the Holy Spirit. Realize that speaking in tongues there is simply the languages of the earth (not some special tongue) if its babble to you, then its not the Holy Spirit speaking. The holy spirit can speak in all languages and dialects of mankind, all at one time. Its the Universal communicator ... Man cannot do that
The Triune God is the source of all the blessings of creation and salvation. God the Father, and God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. When ever Jesus preformed miracles on earth it was through the power of the Holy Spirit and when a person comes to Christ it is the power of the Holy Spirit who drew that person and gave them all the many facets of Salvation that a person receives at that time. God is the source of everything.
JESUS NEVER LIVED face it the evidence is conclusive. Evolution and the big bang have been proved.
