In the NBA, the record is 97 in a row by Michael Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He accomplished this feat over 2 season (1992-1993, 1993-1994).

The Guinness world record holder is Ted St. Martin, who made 5,221 consecutive free throws on April 28, 1996. He did so while giving a shooting clinic to students, taking over 7 hours to complete the task.

The most by an amateur and second most overall is Hal Cohen, a former SU player. He hit 598 consecutive free throws after practice when he was 17 in High School.

The number of players in the NBA varies each year. Each team can carry a maximum of 15 players. But, they can carry as few as 12. So, each year the number of players range anywhere from 360 to 450 since there are 30 teams in the league, so about 500 players.

If the ball rests on the edges, and the opponent moves the basket, it shall count as a goal. # When the ball goes out of bounds, it shall be thrown into the field of play by the person first touching it. In case of a dispute, the umpire shall throw it straight into the field. The thrower-in is allowed five seconds; if he holds it longer, it shall go to the opponent. If any side persists in delaying the game, the umpire shall call a foul on that side. # The umpire shall be judge of the men and shall note the fouls and notify the referee when three consecutive fouls have been made. He shall have power to disqualify men according to Rule 5. # The referee shall be judge of the ball and shall decide when the ball is in play, in bounds, to which side it belongs, and shall keep the time. He shall decide when a goal has been made, and keep account of the goals with any other duties that are usually performed by a referee. # The time shall be two 15-minute halves, with five minutes' rest between. # The side making the most goals in that time shall be declared the winner. James Naismith is the creator of the best game in the world...Basketball. He wrote the original 13 rules,and coached basketball from 1898-1907 at the University of Kansas. His parents were Scottish immigrants. He was the eldest child of Margaret and John Naismith. His parents died when he was 9 of Typhoid fever. He was then raised be his strict religious grandmother and his Uncle Peter. He suffered a major brain hemorrhage and passed away when he was just 78 years old, he is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence, KS. He lived from 1861-1939. James A. Naismith is actually one of my ancestors.

Basketball was invented in 1891 by physical education instructer James Naismith at Springfield College in Springfield. He created the game so his phys-ed students could play a sport in the winter that was indoors.

As far as MLB is concerned, the highest scoring game in the American League, was played on Wednesday, August 22, 2007. The Texas Rangers whooped the Baltimore Orioles 30-3.

Chicago Colts set the major league mark in a 36-7 rout of Louisville in a National League game on June 28, 1897, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

One of the shortest, if not the all time shortest, players to have played in the NBA was Tyrone 'Muggsy' Bogues who went to college at Wake Forest. He was 5' 3" and was a first round draft choice of the Washington Bullets in 1987. Bogues played in the NBA for 14 seasons with the Bullets, Charlotte Hornets, Golden State Warriors, and Toronto Raptors.

Another small player was Anthony 'Spud' Webb who went to college at North Carolina State. He was 5' 7" and was a fourth round draft choice of the Detroit Pistons in 1985. Webb played in the NBA for 12 seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Orlando Magic. He won the NBA's slam dunk contest at the All-Star game in 1986.
