Bat and birds both have wings so why are they found on different branches of the tree of life?
Birds' wings feathers and bats' wings do not.
Bird wings are supported by a leading bone along the front while bat wings have bone supports across the wing.
heres a few things:
As well,
wing of a bat:
-has sheets of skip (patagium) between digits 2 through 5, all of which are elongated
- skin between body and hindlimb and tail (uropatagium)
wing of a bird:
- wing terminates in set of fused bones, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th digits
- greatest part of airfoil is made of flight feathers (light and produce wing slots to reduce drag)
The Head and body of the bat, the ears are usually not, except for fruit bats. The wings are not, and the feet can be in some kinds.
Why do vampire bats only come out at night?
i think beetles only come out at night 'cause probably people are sleep and beetles can climb in but they don't come out at day 'cause people can see them
How are elephants and bats alike?
Both bats and dolphins use echolocation. Echolocation is a way to identify objects as well as their distance. They actually send out a sound and use its echo to detect distance. For exemple, imagine you are standing 10 meters away from a wall and throw a ball at it. The ball will return to you in a certain amount of time. Now, if you step at 5 meters of that wall, the ball will return to you faster than before. This is how echolocation works. When the echo of the sound returns to the animal faster than before, it means the animal is getting closer to the object. Another way they are similar is that both are mammals that have evolved abilities most mammals don't have. Dolphins live in the sea, and bats fly.
Can humans hear bats making noises?
Their wing-beats are just audible if you are close enough in quiet surroundings.
I have experienced this - it's a lovely soft, velvety whisper.
Young people with their ears in full health may be able to hear some bats' navigation and social calls, as rapid, very faint clicks, again in close proximity in quite surroundings. I have done myself - when I was about 20.
Generally though the call frequencies render the squeaks and chirps themselvesultrasonic - far above the human ear's frequency range.
Deepnding on species the hunting call chirps can range from about 50kHz to well over 100kHz, and at very high rates. They chirp because that gives much mroe accurate discrimination of prey from background than would be given by a single-pitch "cheep".
The sound pressure level of bat in full cryis extraordinarily high considering the tiny size of the animal's vocal tract, although the amount of energy in it is obviously very low: some bats can call at over 120dB re 20µPa that is the Threshold of Hearing for humans; and many can exceed 100dB.
Most small bats eat insects, and large fruit bats eat fruit. Central American vampire bats walk up to livestock, bite them, and lick several drops of their blood; bats do not drink blood.
How many feet does a bat have?
They fly close to the ground, at a height of about one meter (~3 feet), and once they do find their prey, their use their specialized heat sensors on their nose to locate veins close to the skin.
What is more closely related bats and birds or Bats and bears?
Bats and bears . . . they're both mammals. A bird isn't.
Do bats have special adaptations?
Bats feet are adaptions as they can hang upside down for hours! There wings are sort of because they can fly to find their food. :-)
What do northern blossom bats eat?
they mostly eat rats or flies or just about anything they can find that has meat on it
How long can a bat live without food or water?
When a bat is going through it's hibernation phase, bats have the ability to sleep through the entire winter without needing to consume food and water. Should a bat find itself without food or water in normal, every day conditions bats usually not be able to last any longer than a couple days. Most bats will need to consume food or water within 3 days for survival.
How bats use echolocation to see where they are going?
they use (sound navigation and ranging)
How are humans forelimb different from bats forelimbs?
It is similar to humans as frogs uses its forelimbs mainly for holding thing at times, like preys, trees or plants on which they are sitting. They use there forelimbs to eat or hold insects once hey catch them through there tongue
Bats can hunt at night because they can 'see' without needing light. This means that they can take advantage of being able to hunt while other predators are not able to prey on them. Basically, bats feed at night for security reasons
Does bat lay eggs or give birth to young alive?
Nope - insects lay eggs which hatch. They do not 'give birth'
What kind of mice eats grasshopper?
Muscovy Ducks like them. I'm sure any bird bigger than a sparrow would like them too.
Quite right. Muscovies are surprisingly fierce ducks. They look very slow, but they will snatch a fly out of the air. Even sparrows will eat small grasshoppers when they are feeding their babies, that need meaty food to help them grow.
Why vampires do not have teeth?
No, if by 'Twilight' you mean the book series by Stephenie Meyer.
The Twilight vampires are different from conventional vampires in several ways, their lack of fangs one of them.
They have teeth like regular humans, but they are razor sharp and can cut through most substances; notably vampire skin, which is described as being hard as granite.
Their venom is believed to be 'coating' on their teeth, transferring to the body of the victim through the bite. In Midnight Sun, Edward describes being near a human while hungry causing an 'excess flow of venom' to his mouth. From this it can be compared to the human sensation of 'drooling at the mouth' when hungry or a particularly appetising food is present.
