While it is true that cleanliness helps control this insect, they multiply rapidly. Cockroach spray helps also. I believe Walmart sells some brown gel-looking stuff in a tube you apply to corners, under the sink, and other places where cock roaches roam.

However, do not put it in food preparation areas. Be sure to read the label as how to safely use it. I have been told, this stuff has sex appeal to the insect. I don't know, but I do know it works. I have used it.

Also, use plastic sacks. They seem to like brown paper bags.
