Why alternate on an infant during CPR?

The emergency cardiac care recommendations, adopted by AHA and ARC, are what is followed as the best care for an infant.

What information should you not collect from the victim?

The people you interacted with in the last 24 hours

How do you correctly check if a person is breathing?

Look, listen, and feel for breathing. Look for the chest rise and fall. Listen for breaths. If the victim is breathing, you will feel the breaths on your cheek as you are looking down the long axis of the body.

When to dial 911 during CPR?

Call 911 before you start CPR.

What is an initial assessment in CPR?

When someone is requiring CPR the first consideration should be for your own safety. Think about possible reasons why they might be unconscious - has someone attacked them? If so where is the attacker and are you at risk? If they have been hit by a car and are in the road think about the dangers of other traffic. If they have been electrocuted make sure the electricity supply has been turned off etc etc. the list is endless! The next step is to check for a response - shout loudly in both ears and shake a shoulder VERY gently. If there is no response open their mouth to check their airway - if nothing is visible tilt their head upwards slightly to clear the airway - into a 'sniffing' position. (called the head tilt, chin lift manoeuver) Then feel for a pulse in the neck (carotid pulse) and at the same time put your ear next to their mouth and turn head to look at their chest. This way you can feel and listen for any breath with your ear and observe for any rise and fall of the chest at the same time as feeling for a pulse. You should check for these signs for 10 secs. If they are not breathing and don't have a pulse - then start CPR

Under what conditions would you not commence CPR?

You not allowed to perform CPR if:

1. There is danger to your own life

2. If a guardian of the individual will not give you permission to perform CPR

3. There is a verified DNR physician order

4. The person doesn't need CPR

5. Higher level medical personell arrive to take over and ask you to stop CPR

If the victim is breathing normally after 1 shock of the AED what should you do?

Leave the AED attached and place the victim in the recovery position by rolling them onto their (preferebly left) side.

Why doesn't the ratio change for two-rescuer CPR on an adult?

It has been found that for adults, compressions is the key factor.

How do you care for an elderly person with high body temperature?

If the temperature is over 100 you should call the emergency room and see if you should take the person in.

Is cpr recertification required in California?

What is the item use in resuscitation?

a large wooden cross that the victim is then nailed to and left to die

There are no documented cases of human immunodeficiency virus HIV or hepatitis B HBV infection transmitted by mouth-to-mouth ventilation?

You're question doesn't make complete sense.

But if you're asking if HIV or Hepatitis B HBV can be transmitted by mouth to mouth ventilation,

It's not likely.

Both of those diseases are blood bourne pathogens.

Meaning they can only be transmitted, or transferred, by bodily fluids.

Such as blood, semen, vaginal secretions, or an open wound.

It takes more than three gallons of saliva to transfer the diseases,

and urine, feces and vomit show no traces of the infected.

Hope this helped (:

Can you teach heart saver CPR with BLS for health care providers certification?

The health care providers' employers will decide whether that's acceptable. All of my employers require the health care workers' course and don't accept the heart saver course.

Where do you take a CPR course in Canada?

To find locations in Canada to take CPR classes, contact the Canadian Red Cross. See the related link.

What are signs of circulation in CPR?

For lay (community) CPR, there is no circulation check at all for an Adult. If no breathing, and after 2 breaths, go directly to CPR for an Adult. Do not stop CPR to check for circulation. For a Child, check circulation at carotid artery. For an Infant, check the brachial artery.

What do you do after a patient has been intubated during two person CPR?

After a person has been intubated, chest compressions are no longer interrupted to do ventilations. Instead, chest compressions are done continuously, and ventilations are done simultaneously at a rate of one breath every 6 to 8 seconds. This is because now that the patient is intubated, (assuming placement of the tube has been confirmed) the airway is open, so the rescuers no longer have to stop compressions to open the airway and check for chest rise.

If you have responded to a four-year-old child who was found submerged in a pool. You found the child unresponsive and not breathing so you initiated CPR. How do you perform high-quality rescue breaths?

This can not be described, you have to go on a resuscitation course and learn the skill using a dummy and then practice regularly to keep up the skill.

CPR and foreign body airway obstruction when to start and stop?

Start working on an airway obstruction thusly:

Conscious patient.

  • See if they can speak. Ask, "Are you choking?"
  • Observe -- are they acting like they're choking?
  • Start Heimlich manuver(s).

Unconscious patient:

  • If they aren't breathing, start resuscitation.
  • If you meet resistance when ventilating, look in the mouth and see if you can sweep any foreign objects. Be very careful with this -- it's a real problem if you force the object in harder.
  • Heimlich prone manuver(s).

CPR

Start CPR when:

  • Patient is unconscious
  • no breath sounds or very irregular or agonal breathing, Cheyne-Stokes breathing, etc.
  • No discernable heartbeat either via ausculation or palp of pulse points.

When to stop

  • When the condition is resolved (e.g. the airway is clear, the patient is breathing, the pulse is discernable. Even then, get to a hospital for a check.
  • When there is danger in continuing. For instance, don't do this in traffic.
  • When you are relieved by competant personnel, either to perform on scene or transport.
  • When you physically no longer can continue.
  • When someone with authority to do so pronounces the patient dead, or it is irrefutably 100% certain the patient is dead. Note that some drowning cases have appreared dead and then revived after 45 minutes (see Diving Reflex).

In CPR why dominant hand is top on non dominant hand?

Dominant hand can be on top or on the bottom during CPR. It depends on which position is more comfortable while performing the compressions. There is no requirement to have the dominant hand on top.

How do you control abnormal breathing of an infant?

As a first responder, it is difficult to control breathing. You keep the airway open, and if breathing is inadequate, you perform rescue breathing. If oxygen is available and you are trained, you may use it. If a BVM is available, with oxygen, that is the best case scenario. In a more controlled setting, such as a hospital, they may use medications and/or a respirator.

Why do you let the chest recoil?

After the compression is applied, your hands should rest on the chest with no force. The chest will recoil by itself. Your hands should not lift from the chest when it rebounds.

Is CPR a combination of chest compression and rescue breaths?

Yes it is. CPR stands for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. The "Cardio" means heart and "Pulmonary" means lungs. Therefore, CPR is a combination of chest compression and rescue breaths.

==========yes first u do thirty chest compresions then two short breathes making sure that the head is back

What is the contraindication for CPR?

According to Red Cross, all patients in cardiac arrest may receive resuscitation unless (1) the patient has a valid "Do Not Attempt Resucitation" (DNAR) order, (2) the patient has signs of irreversible death such as rigor mortis, decapitation, or dependent lividity and (3) if there is no physiological benefit that can be expected because the vital functions have deteriorated despite maximal therapy for such conditions as progressive septic or cardiogenic shock. A patient with a fractured rib may also be contraindicated for CPR to avoid puncturing of vital organs by the fractured rib.
