What are the ratios for 1 person and 2 person CPR?

For 1-person CPR; Adult, Child, and Infant: 30 compressions : 2 breaths.

For 2-person CPR; Adult is: 30 compressions : 2 breaths.

For 2-person CPR; Child, and Infant: 15 compressions : 2 breaths.

When would you use CCR instead of CPR?

First I'll explain the difference:

CCR-is an alternative TO CPR and is chest compression Without mouth to mouth(moving O2 thru the body) and advanced cardiac life support using drugs, electrical defibulators and sometimes internal cardiac compression.

CPR- is chest compressions and rescue breathing, both give O2 to the body.

So based on the definitions CCR is used in a controlled situation like at a health care facility or with an ambulance.

CPR is used when you are absent of advanced life support equipment.

Both are performed when someone is without respiration and pulse.

If you did not feel confident to carry out rescue breaths on a non - breathing patient what action would you have while waiting for the emergency services to arrive?

If I did not feel confident to carry out rescue breaths on a non - breathing patient I would start chest compressions until the emergency services arrived.

How does an adult head to toe exam differ from one on an infant or child?

The "process" of performing the head to toe exam is the same for all ages. You are looking for additional injuries. I can not think of any difference in the how to which age is a factor on how something is performed.

How do you perfom CPR on an adult?

To perform CPR for adults:

  1. Make sure the scene is safe before going to the person.
  2. Determine consciousness; tap & shout "Are you OK?".
  3. If unconscious, call 911; or better yet have someone else call if available.
  4. Tip the head and check for breathing; look, listen, feel for 10 seconds.
  5. If the person is not breathing, give 2 breaths.
  6. Give 30 chest compressions.
  7. Give 2 breaths.
  8. Repeat cycles of compressions & breaths until help arrives or someone else can take over. Each cycle of 30 compressions and 2 breaths should take 24 seconds.

CPR - adult - series?

Check for responsiveness

1. Check for responsiveness. Shake or tap the person gently. See if the person moves or makes a noise. Shout, "Are you OK?"

2. Call 911 if there is no response. Shout for help and send someone to call 911. If you are alone, call 911 and retrieve an automated external defibrillator (AED) if one is available, even if you have to leave the person.

3. Carefully place the person on their back. If there is a chance the person has a spinal injury, two people should move the person to prevent the head and neck from twisting.

4. Perform chest compressions:

  • Place the heel of one hand on the breastbone – just below the nipples.
  • Place the heel of your other hand on top of the first hand.
  • Position your body directly over your hands.
  • Give 30 chest compressions. These compressions should be FAST and hard. Press down about 2 inches into the chest. Each time, let the chest rise completely. Count the 30 compressions quickly: "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30, off."

5. Open the airway. Lift up the chin with 2 fingers. At the same time, push down on the forehead with the other hand.

6. Look, listen, and feel for breathing. Place your ear close to the person's mouth and nose. Watch for chest movement. Feel for breath on your cheek.

7. If the person is not breathing or has trouble breathing:

  • Cover the person's mouth tightly with your mouth.
  • Pinch the nose closed.
  • Keep the chin lifted and head tilted.
  • Give 2 breaths. Each breath should take about a second and make the chest rise.

8. Continue CPR (30 chest compressions followed by 2 breaths, then repeat) until the person recovers or help arrives. If an AED for adults is available, use it as soon as possible.

If the person starts breathing again, place them in the recovery position. Periodically re-check for breathing until help arrives.

Do you have to perform CPR if you are a card carrier?

No you are not required to. You should if there is no one else to help though because you are certified.

How do you know if the AED pads are put on correctly?

As far as pad placement, the icons on the pads will show where they go on the victim; upper right on chest and lower left on the ribs. The AED will recognise if the contact between the pad and skin is correct; if not, the chest was not wiped off to remove the fluids or there is too much hair where the pad was placed.

What is a first aid and CPR college class like?

The exact same class that is offered in the community at your local firehouse. No difference.

Increase in minute ventilation?

The volume of air inspired into or expired out of the lungs in 1 min. It usually refers to the expired amount and can be calculated using the following equation: VE = VT × f, where VE represents the minute ventilation in litres (l−1) per minute, VT represents tidal volume in litres, and f represents respiratory frequency in breaths per minute. A typical resting value of minute ventilation is 6 l min−1, but it may rise to as much as 180 l min−1 during intense exercise. The change in minute ventilation has been used to identify the anaerobic threshold .

What should you do after 2nd shock?

You should keep following the voice prompts of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED). As a first aider, we cannot analyse an ECG and as such we cannot see the heart rhythm. Keep shocking and doing CPR until help arrives, the patient recovers or your safety becomes threatened (heatlh/exhaustion included).

Why is bad CPR good?

Not following the CPR procedure correctly could cause serious damage, even death. If it is not exactly the number of compressions and breaths recommended, it would be better than doing nothing at all. However, if the breaths are too forceful, it could cause serious damage in an infant and even in an adult; or the depth of compressions are too deep it could again causeserious damage or even death. Generally speaking, bad or incorrect CPR is NOT good.

Do you think any victim or family of victim might sue the city or county or state due to this bridge collapse?

No. The state was informed of the problems and made its most reasonable effort to further investigate and was in the process of doing so when the bridge went down. If the state had prior knowledge of probable or imminent collapse and did nothing, it could then be open to a lawsuit.

CPR training can contribute to what injuries?

CPR training, per se, doesn't contribute to any injuries. If for example you have a dislocated or broken shoulder and tried to do CPR training, it may make the injury worse.

Why should you give first aid?

If you do not give first aid the person may die before they can get proper medical care.

And who would not want to be able to say they saved somebody's life? That's just about as cool as it gets.
