Hera (Juno)

Hera is a Greek and Roman goddess (also known as Juno) who is the wife of Zeus and queen of the gods. Her charge is marriage and she defends the ideas of it fiercely but, ironically, can not keep her husband from straying and ignoring her values.

Hera's passionate personality plays a large role in how she reacts to certain situations; she can be incredibly cruel to her rivals or immensely helpful.

She can be considered a hero in the myth of Jason and the Argonauts in which she helps him obtain the golden fleece -- an impossible task without her aid.

She succeeded in having Echinda killed. She failed in having Hercules killed.

Depends on which story is used. One would say she is her aunt as she was born from the discarded testicles of Uranus. Home calls her the daughter of Zeus and Dione which means she is a niece to Hera. The more common choice is the first.

It's not that he was cruel to Echo, he was just so self absorbed that she didn't matter to him. He would have (and did) treat any other woman the same way.

Zeus had kidnapped the maiden Io, and turned her into a cow. Hera took Io and sent the one hundred eyed Argus to guard her. Zeus was very angrey (don't know why) and sent his son Hermes to bore Argus. Argus became so bored over the continuous yaping of Hermes that he closed all of his eyes thus killing himself. Hera then took all of his eyes and put them on her pet phesant thus making it a peacock.

The closest I can think of would be Isis. She is the wife/sister of the second ruler of the gods. Zeus came after Chronos, just as Osiris came to power after Ra. Once again like Hera, Isis often does things behind her husband's back. Hera would often punish women who had interacted with Zeus. Isis poisoned Ra so that Osiris could come to power. I don't know of an Egyptian god of marriage/union, so Isis is my best guess.

Well Hera isn't really mentioned in modern media or culture today, but what she stands for, family and marriage, is a common aspect of everyday life. The media often mocks the "perfect family" of two parents and children that Hera is associated with. However, traditional cultures still value this type of family style, despite the divorce rate in the world being higher than ever.

disliked her is an understatement Hera was jealous of him because he was the son of her husband Zeus and another woman. she sent two serpents to kill him when he was a baby, but he killed them. then she sent a fit of madness upon him which caused him to kill his wife and three children. he was about to kill himself when he was told by an oracle that he should give himself into the service of his cousin Eurystheus king of Mycenae. Hera urged him to challenge him with 12 tasks called the "2 labors of hercules". she hoped he would be killed pursuing them. during the ninth labor Hercules was charged with taking the Amazon queen Hippotyle belt to give it to Eurystheus's daughter. the queen willing gave Hercules her belt but sadly for him Hera didn't like the fact that it would be so easy. she convinced Hippotyles forces that Hercules was trying to abduct the queen. Hercules believing that Hippotyle was responsible for the following attack killed her. after the 12 tasks when he went to sea to continue his adventures Hera sent huge storms to try to wreck the boat. later he did attempt to smooth things with Hera and sacrificed goats to her. unfortunately her anger only cooled when he died. ironically enough he then married Hera's daughter Hebe at Olyumpus. basikally he disliked her because she was always trying to kill him.
