Yes, just need to download the correct driver and I would recommend to downloading xpadder. Makes configuring the controller button layout simple and is compatible with any game. Now this will also depend on the operating system of the laptop. I have Windows XP and Ubuntu (Linux) on a net book, I'm not sure about Mac OS base systems.

There is a program already installed on most computer that is called Windows Easy Transfer.To transfer files.If you want to connect the screens then you can't do that on laptops.
