What is the enterprise wheel and how does it illustrate a cohesive manufacturing procedure?

New insight brings us to the new Manufacturing Enterprise Wheel. This updated vision preserves the understanding gained from the previous CIM Enterprise Wheel. The old Wheel looked primarily at automation and integration inside the enterprise. The new Wheel looks outside as well. It adds understanding in these six areas:

o The central role of a customer-oriented mission and vision to strive for continuous improvement.

o The importance of teams and human networking in the new manufacturing environment.

o The continuing importance of computer tools, now increasingly distributed and networked. This includes tools to support networking and concurrent engineering.

o A focus on key processes and best practices throughout the enterprise, from marketing through design, manufacturing, and customer support.

o Recognition of the move away from bureaucratic structures, to leaner and more agile organizations.

o The need to integrate an understanding of the external environment, including customers, competitors, suppliers, and the global manufacturing infrastructure.

CASA/SME continues to provide leadership in enterprise integration, through education and information services for its members. The new Manufacturing Enterprise Wheel is, in a sense, a graphical index to the knowledge and organizational approach required in today's manufacturing world.

Why do people build haystacks?

Most don't. It's actually rare even for farmers to build haystacks unless you're talking about the Amish or the few ranchers that like to stack hay the way it was done a hundred years ago. Anyway, haystacks are built so that they store hay instead of leaving it to waste out on the field, and are stacked so that they shed water if/when it rains.

Hay is mechanically baled into large round bales or large or small square bales instead of stacked into a large haystack.

How can you revitalise perished rubber?

Revitalizing perished rubber can be achieved through a few methods. One common approach is to use rubber rejuvenators or conditioners, which penetrate the rubber and restore its flexibility by replenishing lost oils. Another method involves heating the rubber gently to soften it, followed by applying a rubber sealant or protective coating to enhance its durability. However, it's important to note that severely degraded rubber may not be fully restored and might need replacement.

Is the rubber hood sealing strip important?

Yes, the rubber hood sealing strip is important as it helps to protect the engine compartment from water, dirt, and debris, preventing potential damage to sensitive components. It also aids in maintaining proper airflow and temperature regulation within the engine bay. Additionally, a well-sealed hood can reduce noise and vibrations, contributing to a smoother driving experience. Overall, it plays a crucial role in vehicle maintenance and performance.

Is quality control and inspection are synonymous?

No, they are not synonymous. An inspection is part of quality control and serve the purpose of finding a defect in a product or service or in the process of making it or providing it (some could used it to verify it is a good product or process and make it a positive evaluation). Quality control is much bigger; it includes the inspections and reporting. It might include some type of enforcing/follow up of corrections (some could could also use it to encourage continuance of the good parts of the process).

What is the difference between the processes of stamping and extrusion?

Stamping involves a force applied to a die that removes a section of material, typically thin. Extrusion is a process where a force is applied to a fluid material which is pushed through a die creating the rough final form. Extrusion is much less wasteful in most circumstances.
