Pythons

Pythons are a family of non-venomous snakes that are native to Africa, Asia and Australia. Pythons are ambush predators that use constriction to kill their prey. Unlike female boas, female pythons lay eggs. Pythons are hunted for their skin, which is used, like leather, to make shoes, handbags and other fashion accessories. Can chameleon and ball python live in same tank?

Yes they sure can i have a 9 month year old python and he just stays in his little house and my boa she is 6 months and she just stays up in her tree. They get along. But you better not feed them at the same time. So just feed them separate and give them different water bowls. They should be fine together.

I hope you know your boa is going to get twice the size of your ball python and can carry diseases deadly to pythons. Not only that, they have completely different husbandry requirements. Ball pythons temps are 88-90 degrees on the hot side 75-80 degrees on the cool side and 50-60% humidity while boas have 90-95 degree hot side 85-90 degrees on the cool side and 70-80% humidity. One is going to get neglected or one is going to be in too extreme of conditions.

Where burmese pythons came from?

They're an invasive species in Florida, usa. As usual - the human race is to blame for their introduction ! People bought them as babies when they were only a few inches long. Sadly, these snakes grow large very quickly - attaining a length of eight feet in their first year ! Irresponsible owners, who found they couldn't cope - simply dumpedthis alien species into the wild - and now are complainingthat their pets are being attacked - by a reptile that is simply doing what is natural behaviour for the species - predation on suitably-sized mammals for food !

Is it legal to own a Burmese Python in Memphis tn?

No. Not yet, anyway. It may be eventually. But as of now in TN you can own non venomous snakes. I think you may need a permit to own a snake that is 6ft and over, though. And a well cared for Burmese will certainly surpass the length of 6ft.

What does a Reticulated Python eat?

As an owner of 5 retics., I think I have some pretty good input on this. They'll eat pretty much anything warm blooded when they're very hungry. However; I always feed mine frozen jumbo rats. However, you can feed them rats, chickens, birds, rabbits, pigs, goats (depending on their size of course). Retics are one of the best feeding snakes out there - they're not very picky!! Although I would definitely recommend frozen rats. They're very cheap, they're mite free and anti-microbial free due to the freezing. It usually doesn't take much to switch your retic or burmese from live to frozen.

The Reticulated Python is a member of the Pythonidae family and has and average length of 15ft to 25ft however, it is possible for some to grow near 30ft with a weight of 300lbs; the largest was measured at 33ft; they can be located in Southeast Asia and can be found in the tropical rainforest's, a member of the Boa family the female can have up to 100 eggs at a time, the diet consists of small mammals and birds, the larger the python the larger the prey which include pigs, dogs, cats and primates, the python ambushes it's prey and suffocates the victim rather then crushing it, after swallowing the prey whole digestion takes many days to several weeks depending on the size of the prey.

How are the mouths on Burmese pythons adapted to finding prey and swallowing large prey?

The mouth of a snake is expertly suited to swallowing large prey because...

The upper jaw consists of six pieces connected by ligaments and muscle - the lower jaw is in two pieces again connected by ligaments and muscle. This allows the snakes jaws to stretch to accommodate large prey.

Why wont your baby Python eat?

Snakes are fussy eaters. The fact that it doesn't want to eat isn't really a cause for alarm in and of itself. If your snakes weight is still looking good and (s)he doesn't seem to be getting thinner, then there's no cause for alarm. You can try to get your baby python to eat using any of the tricks discussed in this thread: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_some_tips_for_getting_a_stubborn_ball_python_to_eat Split-braining pinkies is also a good way to get young snakes to eat. This process involves cutting the top of the pinky's head open so that the brain is exposed. FOR GOD'S SAKE, ONLY DO THIS WITH A DEAD PINKY. Force feeding should only be an absolute last resort. Take your snake to a vet to have this done, as it can seriously injure the snake if you don't know what you're doing. Do not ever feed live food to a baby snake. This is a method discussed in the thread I linked, but it's not really an option with a baby snake.

Where does an albino python live?

Albino snakes do not live anywhere in particular. Albino is not a species, but rather a color variety that results from a defect in a gene that codes for black pigment. Albinism can occur in most animals, including many species of snake. However, albino animals, such as snakes, rarely live long in the wild as their light color makes them an easy target for predators. The vast majority of albino snakes live in captivity.
