This could be several problems. To figure it out have you tried playing multiple media's through? Such as watching television programming, a DVD, a Blu-Ray, a CD, a radio station, etc... You may not have all of these hooked up through your receiver but switching up the media may give you a difference. If you are hearing the pops and snaps through just one, such as when you watch DVD's, then it would be the signal coming from the DVD player. To further investigate switch up the DVD's to see if it's just on movie or all of them.
