The name of the holiday is 'Thanksgiving'. If you're just writing a note to someone it's not necessary. Other uses of the term are optional, for example if the teacher writes the message on the board or you're giving a party and put up a sign, those will look better if both are capitalized.

The first Thanksgiving in the New World that was recorded is when the pilgrims gathered together with the Indians to give thanks for a successful harvest. In that respect, yes, it was the first Thanksgiving.

The pilgrims suffered a harsh journey to the new land even losing almost half of its passengers owing to illnesses such as scurvy and contagious diseases. The harsh winter forced them to stay on board. When the surviving passengers who were suffering from malnutrition and sickness, went ashore, a native Indian who knew English helped them survive the harsh winter by showing them how to grow vegetables such as corn. He showed them how to extract sap from maple trees, recognize which plants were poisonous and taught them how to catch fish from the rivers. They had a long treaty of friendship and the pilgrims invited the Native Indians to celebrate their well being after a harsh winter, their first successful harvest and blessings of a good harvest with thanksgiving prayers and a feast.

In the US a traditional Thanksgiving dinner is: roast turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, yams, cranberries, bread, salad, pumpkin pie and appetizers. Appetizers vary with the geographical area and a variety of pies are usually baked. Many meals also include wine and other beverages.

A traditional Thanksgiving celebration is held in a home. It includes attire that may range from less informal to more formal. It invokes the connection between the people and the land by way of decorations in the warm earth colors of brown and orange. It involves attendance by family and friends. It requires the use of such traditional fare as turkey and ham, squash, peas or green beans and carrots, mashed potatoes, cranberries, and apple sauce. Dessert tends to be pumpkin pie with ice cream. the reason The date of Thanksgiving changes is because the wasy the day is set. Because thnaksgiving is on the fourth thursday of each November, the date will change because the day does not. Like a birthday for example. your birthday might be on a monday this year but a Wednesday next year or the year after. this is because its always the same date. Same thing with thanksgiving but the other way around. thanksgivings day does not change ( the fourth thursday in November) but the date does

The turkey is native to North America. It was abundant and common game for the early settlers of the New World. It is typically a large bird and will feed a larger group of people then a chicken or duck would. Also, because they figured the Turkey would represent the Native Americans better in Thanksgiving.

If by Thanksgiving you are referring to a holiday (or even a specific date) to commemorate some special event that Mexicans in general are thankful for, then the answer is no. Some regions or towns, where agriculture is a relevant economical activity, have festivities related to the harvest disguised as religious celebration. I'm not very versed in the catholic religion, but seems to me that every rural region has it's own "Santo Patrono" (saint) which is believed to have a special influence in the agricultural matters.

The first person to eat turkey on Christmas day is not known, for sure. However, one of the first people to do it was King Henry VIII. Still, the goose remained the most popular Christmas day food in England until the turkey finally won out in the mid 20th century.

Thanksgiving is alwasy obsreved on a Thursday. when FDR signed the bill to make it a law. He choose to make it on the 4th Thursday of every November. Now, most people get the Friday after Thanksgiving off alongside Thanksgivng Thursday becase Thanksgiving is always observed on Thursday.

George Washington declared Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1789.

However, the Continental Congress (president John Hanson) made the first actual national proclamation on March 16, 1776. The following year, a national day of prayer and thanksgiving was observed on December 16, 1777. The date of Thursday, November 26, 1789 was the date used by Washington, following the precedent of Thursday, November 28, 1782.

The annual observance was established by Abraham Lincoln in 1863, and observed each year since then.
